CHINESE 'STRING OF PEALS'


 'String of Pearls’ refers to a geopolitical theory to the network of Chinese intentions in India Ocean Region (IOR).Precisely, it refers to the network of Chinese military and commercial facilities developed by China in countries falling on the Indian Ocean between the Chinese mainland and Port Sudan.


THE PEARLS

๐Ÿ”– Pakistan๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ – Gwadar port was built, and it is now being operated by a Chinese dominated consortium of companies. It is strategically situated in direct proximity to the Strait of Hormuz and is critical to the establishment of the China – Pakistan economic corridor, which is an integral part of “ The Belt and Road Initiative”.

๐Ÿ”– Cambodia๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ-China reached an agreement with the local government for the rights over 1/3 from the Ream naval base.

๐Ÿ”–Myanmar ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ– there is an ongoing project for the construction of a deep-water port in Kyaukpyu.

๐Ÿ”– Bangladesh๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฉ – China is trying to negotiate a project to expand and modernize port Chittagong .

๐Ÿ”– Sri Lanka๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ – Hambantota port was completed by Chinese companies in 2010. However, since then, the local government has indebted to such an extent, that now it is forced to lease the port to China for 99 years.


๐Ÿ”– Maldives ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ป– there is a possible project for a submarine base on the Marao atoll.

๐Ÿ”–Africa  - It is worth mentioning the special relations that China maintains with three countries from East Africa, namely *Djibouti๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฏ, Kenya๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช, and Sudan๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ธ.*
