Whole India got independence on 15 August 1947?๐ฎ๐ณ Really๐ค๐ค
When I was a child๐ฆ I used to think that that whole India got independence on 15 August 1947.๐ฎ๐ณ
But it is half truth
The British India Empire๐ฌ๐ง , which included present-day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh was divided into two types of territories: the provinces of British India, which were governed directly by British officials responsible to the Governor General of India ; and princely states,๐คด under the rule of local hereditary rulers who recognised British suzerainty in return for local autonomy, in most cases as established by treaty.
So, on 15 August 1947,only the Provinces of British India got Independence and not the whole India.
After the Indian independence; 562 princely states had nodded to join the Indian Confederation except Hyderabad, Junagadh, Bhopal and Kashmir.
*States which became part of Indian Union after independence*๐๐ฎ๐ณ
1. Jammu and Kashmir* : The king of this state signed the "Instrument of Accession" to India and became part of Indian Union. *In 1956 J&K completed the process of merging with the Indian Union
Now this state is bifurcated and *Laddakh and J&K are the separate union territories* since August 2019
2. Goa : Even after the indian independence this state was under the rule as *Portuguese colony but liberated by the Indian Army in 1961* made an Union Territory, along with Daman and Diu. *The state of Goa was formed on 30 May 1987.*
3. Sikkim: Sikkim; a landlocked state is the *second smallest state of India. It is Popularly known as the Organic state of India. Sikkim was merged with the Indian Union on 16 May 1975.
Linguistic diversity in india resulted in formation of many new states from the existing ones and is still going on .
What are your views about the linguistic division of states?? Kindly share.๐ญ๐ค๐ง
