Israel 🇮🇱- Palestin🇵🇸 conflict* ⚔️

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the *world’s longest-running🗺️ and most controversial conflicts.* At its heart, it is a conflict between two self-determination movements — *the Jewish Zionist project and the Palestinian nationalist project* — that lay claim to the same territory. But it is so, so much more complicated than that, with seemingly *every fact and historical detail small and large litigated by the two sides and their defenders.*


About Israel and Palestine* 🤔

*Israel is the world’s only Jewish state,*🇮🇱 *located just east of the Mediterranean Sea* 🌊.* Palestinians, the Arab population that hails from the land *Israel now controls, refer to the territory as Palestine,* and want to establish a state by that name on all or part of the same land. *The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is over who gets what land and how it’s controlled.*


*History* 


🔖 In the late 1800s a group in Europe🇪🇺 decided to colonize this land. Known as *Zionists* , *they represented an extremist minority of the Jewish population.* 


 🔖 *Hitler’s rise to power, combined with Zionist activities to sabotage efforts to place Jewish refugees in western countries* , led to increased Jewish immigration to Palestine, and conflict grew.

*Arab - Israel War,1948⚔️* 


🔖 *In 1947, the United Nations🇺🇳 voted to split the contested territory into three parts; one for Jews🔯, one for Arabs☪️, and an international trusteeship regime in Jerusalem.* ☪️🔯✝️


🔖 *On May 14, 1948, Israel was officially declared a state, marking the first Jewish state in over 2,000 years.*


🔖 Just one day later, war broke out between Israel and five Arab countries— *Jordan🇯🇴, Iraq,🇮🇶 Syria🇸🇾, Egypt 🇪🇬and Lebanon🇱🇧.* 


🔖 At the end of this conflict, known as the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, *Egypt🇪🇬 was given control of the Gaza Strip.*

🔖 In 1917, shortly before *Britain 🇬🇧became the colonial power in Palestine* , it issued the *Balfour Declaration* which declared: “His Majesty's Government views with *favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people* , and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object".


*Six - day war,1967* ⚔️

*Egypt🇪🇬 controlled Gaza until the Six-Day* War in 1967, when Israel seized the strip, along with several other important areas of land.

*The 1993 and 1995 Oslo Peace Accords☮️ between Palestinian and Israeli leaders* negotiated for Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza and other key areas, which *happened in 2005 under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon* .

🔖 In 2019, before the Israeli elections in April, Prime Minister *Benjamin Netanyahu* had stated that he had *plans to annex the Israeli settlements in the West Bank* .

🔖 These annexation plans have been extremely controversial because it would mean *Israel unilaterally declaring sovereignty over parts of occupied Palestinian territory in the West Bank.*

🔖 The Palestinians believe that the annexation would prevent their access to *essential water resources 💧and key agricultural land👨‍🌾, particularly in the *Jordan Valley.**

🔖 Annexing *Jordan valley* would mean seizing land that’s vital to any future *Palestinian*🇵🇸 state’s success — effectively dismantling the peace process.
